Are You Worth More Than Minimum Wage?

Are you worth more than minimum wage?

mimum wage

Some people are more than happy to work for just about anything, without ever considering that what they are getting paid is actually what they are worth.  Yes, that is right. Whatever you are earning right now is how much you are worth. Whatever salary you have accepted is a direct reflection of how much YOU are worth.

If you’re working for minimum wage there is no one else to blame, but yourself for setting your value so low. For me this realization really started when someone asked me a question that has stuck with me for a very long time. “How much money will you get out of bed for?”  At the time, I had no idea. The question totally caught me off guard, and I didn’t know what to answer.

I went home that night with that question endlessly rotating in my head, and kept asking myself, ‘how much am I worth?’ After several sleepless nights, I finally I came up with a number that I would happily get out of bed for. I soon realized that the number I had set for myself was way beyond what somebody earns in a regular 9-5 job. So I knew that I had to start looking for ways to earn what I set my worth to be.

If like me you are tired of being a part of the race, I urge you to look elsewhere and to set a worth for yourself. This doesn’t mean that you have to quit your current job, but it means that you have to keep your eyes open to opportunity.

Comfort is a huge EVIL, it causes someone to be blinded by the idea that what they earn is “enough” to maintain the lifestyle they have created for themselves. So they miserable stay in a job they hate for years, simply because they are afraid to ask for more, afraid to demand what they are worth.

We only have one life, let’s set our worth, and live the life we want to.

I am  completely aware that most people are happy being employees, and that the need for control and power is not in them. However, I also know that most people value themselves  way too low. So next time you are looking for a new job, do not think about how much someone is willing to pay you, but how much you are willing to work for. Nobody can force you to work for less if you do not accept first. So do not be afraid to negotiate what you think you are worth.

Stop being one of those people who constantly say, “I’ll never be able to afford that. Be a person who wonders “how can I afford it,” and look for ways to REALLY be able to afford it.

I certainly know that many people are content with what they earn, and that is because they have already set their worth. But if on the other hand you believe that you are worth more than what you are getting paid, I ask you to reconsider your life, and start making active strides to get out of the race race, and start living the life that YOU deserve.
